At the Paris Conference in 1919, Geneva was chosen as the Headquarters of the League of Nations. The City became the privileged place of very high level political meetings and a lot of international organizations were established in Geneva.

From that moment what had been called the « Spirit of Geneva » blew across the world, arbitrating the fate of Humanity by using peaceful means to end conflicts. At the end of the Second World War, the City became the European Headquarters of the United Nations Organization (UNO) of which several specialized agencies were welcomed in Geneva.
